Frank Callaghan, the founder of Callaghan Jewellers, was a native of Stranorlar Co Donegal, there he served his time as watch and clockmaker under the guidance of a local master craftsman Billy Carroll. In 1960 after serving his apprenticeship Frank decided to open his first shop, he established Callaghan Jewellers at 23 lower main street Buncrana. There they sold quality jewellery, watches and diamonds whilst also servicing quality watches clocks and general jewellery.
His motto was "For Quality For Years" and that ethos has driven Callaghan Jewellers to it's current position as the leading "County Donegal Jewellers" in the North West..
In 1986 Frank's second son Brendan joined the business after finishing a 3 year watchmaking course and receiving a diploma from the Irish Swiss Institute Of Horology Dublin. In 1986 Brendan qualified as a retail Jeweller and received a diploma from the National Association of Goldsmiths London. In the late 80's Brendan took over the business after the untimely death of his father. Despite difficult trading times he instigated many innovative decisions that impacted the future direction and success of Callaghan Jewellers. In 1989 Callaghan Jewellers purchased the old Urban Council offices and opened a new state of the art jewellery store at 42 upper main street Buncrana where the Business still operates from today.
In the year 2000 The Shop at 42 Upper Main Street, Buncrana, Donegal was totally revamped. Brendan incorporated his own ideas and with the assistance of award winning European Jewellery Shop designers undertook a most ambitious renovation. The result is a shop 5 times its original size, providing a personal viewing gallery also incorporating a private walkway bridge on the first floor bringing a continental luxury shopping environment to Buncrana. This also resulted in a sea change to the product ranges stocked at Callaghan Jewellers. Brendan was aware that there is and would always be a requirement for him to stock traditional products but he also travelled worldwide sourcing brands that were up until then rarely seen in Ireland outside of the major cities. The result of this is a Jewellery store, that would now, not be out of place on the main shopping thoroughfares of any European Capital city.
Callaghan Jewellers Donegal is now the leading destination jewellery brand store in the North West, stocking Quality Watches & Jewellery such as Longines, Raymond Weil, Seiko, with fashion brands Guess and John Rocha, Bronzallure, Rebecca, Ti Sento & Mi Moneda
Always eager to expand his knowledge Brendan has built up a strong network within the jewellery trade not only in Ireland but across Europe and the USA. Brendan works closely with a number of leading designers and prominent members of the diamond trade in Antwerp. With value, price and quality in mind Brendan travels regularly to Antwerp (The Worlds Diamond Capital) His excellent skills and knowledge in diamond sourcing and grading is reflected in the range of high quality diamond jewellery, engagement & wedding rings on sale at Callaghan Jewellers.
